# Changelog

Product and documentation updates for the Sunset API. Items marked **In development** are coming to the API soon — watch this page for go-live announcements.

<Update label="July 2026" description="Automated Closure">
  ## Automated Closure

  Sunset now closes accounts on your behalf: institution notification, documentation, follow-up, signature flagging, and deposit of proceeds into the case's FDIC-insured estate account. Free for families, covering bank, retirement, and brokerage accounts plus life insurance claims. See the [announcement](https://www.hellosunset.com/announcements/automated-closure) and the new [Automated Closure section](/closure-guide#automated-closure) of the Closure Guide, including how automated progress is reflected in the account and closure-step resources you already read today.

  ## In development

  * **Closure-request endpoints** — request and track automated closures programmatically.
  * **Search initiation endpoint** — kick off asset searches over the API.
  * **Business bank account search** — a new search type finding accounts titled to the deceased's business entities.

  Documentation for each will land here when the endpoints ship.

  ## Documentation

  * The [Pro Users Guide](/pro-users-guide#asset-searches) now documents reviewing asset searches: search types and statuses, and where discovered results land in the case's resources.
  * Fixed the [Business Ownership Guide](/business-guide), which previously returned a 404.
  * Added this changelog.

<Update label="March 2026" description="Invite-only access">
  ## Invite-Only Access

  The Sunset API moved to an invite-only access model with bearer authentication. See [Request Access](/request-access).

  ## Read-Heavy Model for Law Firm Integrations

  The API was restructured around a read-heavy model for law firm integrations, with grouped debt-type endpoints and updated enums.
